How to prepare your removal to Spain

Removals can be an arduous and nerve-wrecking task, especially if you are ill-prepared for the experience. That said, a removal checklist is an important aid when moving. If you are particularly looking to move to Spain, the following checklist should cover all the major bases:

Removal Checklist

i) It is best to select all the items that you don’t need and find out how you can best dispose of them for example by giving them to charity, a recycling plant and so on.

ii) Research on the most reliable and cost-effective removal companies should be done well before the set day of moving. This is so as to enable you to book in time and avoid inconveniences usually related to the availability of a company’s personnel and specialized vehicles.

iii) Obtain packaging items such as boxes, masking tape and rope to ensure that your items are properly secured into place and don’t move about during transportation. Also label all the boxes according to the items they are set to carry. While at this, please remember that box-size should be proportionate to the items to be carried-the bulkier items should go to the bigger boxes.

iv) Set up your mail to redirect to your destination address.

v) Notify your insurance company, bank, and related institutions that you are moving.

vi) Organise for your children’s school placement in the destination country.

vii) Crosscheck and confirm removal dates with the removal firm.

viii) Check if there is anything that you have lent out that you need. It may be your favourite book, machinery and more. Also check if you have clothes at the dry cleaners.

ix) Transfer your funds to a Spanish bank, conveniently a branch or affiliate of your current bank to help speed things up. Confirm if funds have been transferred before the set date of moving.

Events to look forward to in Spain

Some of the most celebrated events in Spain include the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is celebrated primarily in Santa Cruz. It features street parades and bands just like the Brazilian Carnival. The other is the Tomatina festival, which is basically one hour of street ripe-tomato-war. Dress simply and indulge! The venue is Buñol, Valencia and the event usually takes place during the last Wednesday of August. Las Fallas is another great festival. The festival is held in Costa Blanca, Valencia to commemorate St. Joseph and involves burning giant puppets, indulging in activities such as bullfights, pageants and more. These are just a few of the many exciting events in Spain.
